A great white shark surprised a pair of Florida fishermen on Saturday, circling their boat in the Atlantic Ocean and harkening visions of the film Jaws.
Kyle Morningstar told The Daytona Beach News-Journal the shark sidled up to his boat near Ponce Inlet, off Florida’s Atlantic shoreline.
The great white circles the boat, a video by Morningstar shows, while he and his friend Ian Smith shout in profanity laced wonder at what they’re seeing.
“Holy (expletive),” one of them can be heard saying in the video, which was posted on Instagram and obtained by the Miami Herald and the News-Journal. “He’s coming up to the surface,” another says incredulously, as the shark inches closer to Morningstar’s 23-foot boat.
And then finally: “Oh my (expletive), God, bro,” one of them says.
Morningstar told the News-Journal the shark, roughly 12-to-15-feet long, appeared as the two were pulling up anchor about 2:30 p.m. The two had been out fishing. The shark disappeared quickly.
The haunting theme from the famous film Jaws came to mind, he told the newspaper.
“We are going to need a bigger boat,” he thought to himself.
