Here’s Everything Coming To Netflix In May (2018) — And What To Watch

It’s almost hard to believe that May is just around the corner. Summer isn’t far off now.

Still, warmer weather doesn’t mean fewer Netflix shows. A whole bunch of licensed and original content is heading to the streaming service in May.

I’ll go over the highlights first and then it’s on to the big list.

What To Watch

Landing on May 1st we have a few good action movies. Hellboy II: The Golden Army is a fantastic, trippy superhero film that came out just before superhero films went mainstream. Guillermo del Toro blends the sensibilities of the first Hellboy with some of the weird elements we saw in Pans’ Labyrinth and while I haven’t seen it in many years, I remember liking it a lot.

The well-received third Jason Bourne film, The Bourne Ultimatum,  also lands on May 1st. Matt Damon’s thriller franchise is always good fun, and this one’s no exception.

For slasher fans, Scream 2 also hits Netflix on May 1st. It’s not as good as the first one. On the other hand, it’s not as bad as the third one.

For families, the original Shrek (which is still far and away the best in the jolly green ogre series) also smashes its way onto Netflix May 1st. On May 19th the heartbreaking Bridge To Terabithia comes to Netflix. Definitely check that one out, but bring a box of tissues. Disney-Pixar’s animated hit Coco arrives on May 29th.

If you’re looking for a good comedy, The 40-Year Old Virgin is coming to Netflix May 14th. It’s a bit on the vulgar side, but ultimately a very sweet film about love and romance.

On May 25th two of my favorite comedians debut their short Netflix special, Steve Martin and Martin Short: An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life. There better be a Three Amigos joke in there somewhere.

By far the show I’m most looking forward to, however, is the Netflix Original Trollhunters which debuts its third season on May 25th. It’s one of my top 5 favorite Netflix Originals hands down, and fun for the whole family. When I was watching it with my kids (the first time) I had to resist watching more episodes after they went to bed. It wasn’t easy. I highly recommend it to children of all ages, even if you’re in your 30s.

Note: Instead of highlighting the many good movies leaving in May, I’d just urge you to scroll to the second half of the big list below. There are many, many good movies leaving the streaming service next month. It would behoove you to check those out and see what you need to cross off your list.

Now on to the list of TV shows and movies coming to Netflix in May.
